Muriel Romero is a dancer and choreographer. Her work focuses on the development of generative choreographic techniques, incorporating abstractions from other disciplines into her artistic language. She has received numerous international awards, including the Moscow International Ballet Competition, Prix de la Fondation de Paris–Prix de Lausanne, the First National Dance Prize of Barcelona, and the “Alfonso X el Sabio” Dance Award. In 2021, she was awarded a fellowship at the Royal Academy of Spain in the field of performing arts.
She has been a principal soloist with prestigious companies such as the Deutsche Oper Berlin, Dresden Semper Oper Ballet, Bayerisches Staatsballett Munich, Grand Théâtre de Genève, and the Spanish National Dance Company. Throughout her career, she has worked with some of the most prominent choreographers of our time, including William Forsythe, Jiří Kylián, Nacho Duato, Ohad Naharin, and Saburo Teshigawara.
In the field of education, she has taught at the Prague Conservatory, the Master’s Program in Contemporary Performing Practices and Visual Culture at the University of Alcalá, and has served as a professor at the Conservatory of Dance in Madrid. In 2008, she co-founded Instituto Stocos with composer Pablo Palacio. Since September 2024, she has been the Director of the Spanish National Dance Company.
