Candelaria Presents CanArts, Canarian Arts Meeting

CanArts, Canarian Arts Meeting. First Edition: Music and Interdisciplinary Creation

The Candelaria City Council presented the project “CanArts, Canarian Arts Meeting. First Edition: Music and Interdisciplinary Creation” on Friday, March 3, at the Plenary Hall. This event promises to be a unique experience and will take place on June 30 and July 1-2.

The Mayor of Candelaria, Mari Brito, pointed out that the backbone of this meeting is music and its links to other arts and areas of knowledge: interdisciplinary artistic creation. The activities of the meeting promote dialogue and reflection between artists from different disciplines and researchers, with the purpose of generating synergies and fostering Canarian interdisciplinary creation, as well as studying today’s Canarian artistic legacy. The meeting will feature an excellent lineup of professionals, such as Laura Vega, Susana Moreno, Rubens Askenar, Gustavo Díaz Jerez, and Wade Matthews. “This framework provides a space where, on one hand, creators can showcase their languages and compositional techniques, or their artistic creations and projects, through presentations; and on the other hand, researchers can share their work and research projects. All framed in a series of seminars, presentations, round tables, and other formats,” explained Brito.

Meanwhile, the Councilor for Culture, Manuel González, emphasized that CanArts is directed at artists, creators, and researchers who wish to participate as speakers to present their work or studies, as well as anyone with intellectual and artistic curiosity who wishes to attend as an audience member. “Writing the history of Canarian music and art helps fix this legacy in the collective memory and highlights the Canarian artistic heritage, from the local to the international level,” reflected González.

The presentation event was also attended by Emilio Coello, Honorary President of CanArts, Rosa Díaz, Artistic and Academic Director of CanArts, Jorge Martín, Director of the Culture Secretariat at the University of La Laguna, and Gerardo Fuentes, Full Member of the Royal Canarian Academy of Fine Arts of San Miguel Arcángel, all of whom praised and valued the involvement of the Candelaria City Council in supporting culture.

Emilio Coello, Honorary President of CanArts, stated that only through culture can we have a much healthier society, and only through culture, particularly art, can we define the identity of a society like the Canarian one, as its thoughts and emotions are intrinsically linked to it. “Fortunately, Candelaria has politicians who keep our culture and traditions alive, and that is why I would like to express my sincere thanks to the Candelaria Municipal Corporation,” he added.

Rosa Díaz, Artistic and Academic Director of CanArts, explained that this initiative aims to create an encounter with artists from different disciplines, with music as the backbone. The goal is to generate synergies among creators from various artistic fields.

“In everything related to culture, art, and its manifestations, you will always find the University,” stated Jorge Martín, Director of the Culture Secretariat at the University of La Laguna, highlighting the importance of research in this program, stressing the need to move beyond the old ways of doing things.

In this regard, Gerardo Fuentes, Full Member of the Royal Canarian Academy of Fine Arts of San Miguel Arcángel, also emphasized the importance of research and the need for interconnection, stating that it is an honor for the Academy to participate in CanArts.
