Rosa Díaz Mayo
She holds a PhD in Musicology from the University of Oviedo, awarded with the distinction Summa Cum Laude. Her doctoral thesis focuses on the analysis of contemporary Spanish music, specifically on the work of the Tenerife-born composer Emilio Coello Cabrera (1964). This research led to the publication of the book Music and Canarian Cultural Tradition in the Work of Emilio Coello (2019), which examines the links between contemporary creation and Canarian cultural tradition.
She holds a Master’s Degree in Cultural Management: Music, Dance and Theatre from the Complutense University of Madrid, a Bachelor’s Degree in Musicology from the same university, and a Degree in Music Education from the University of Extremadura. She also holds a Diploma of Advanced Studies from the Autonomous University of Madrid and the qualification of Expert in University Teaching Methodology from the Autonomous University of Madrid (2025).
She completed comprehensive musical training at conservatory level, obtaining qualifications in Singing, Music Theory and Accompaniment Piano at the Professional and Higher Conservatories of Badajoz and Cáceres.
She is currently a lecturer at the Autonomous University of Madrid (UAM) and Deputy Head of the Interfaculty Department of Music within the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education. A significant part of her academic and managerial career has been developed at the Higher Conservatory of Music of the Canary Islands, where she served as Head of the Department of Musicology and Humanities and as Coordinator of the International Relations Office.
She is a member of national and international research projects and research groups focused on music, educational innovation, and the didactics of music and the arts. Her research interests include contemporary music, musical teaching and learning processes, and innovative methodologies applied to arts education.
She has published books and articles in specialised academic journals and publishers in the fields of music and music education. She actively participates in national and international conferences, where she presents papers and delivers specialised seminars.
In the field of cultural management, she has worked at the Higher Centre for Research and Promotion of Music of the Autonomous University of Madrid, as well as in educational projects of the Community of Madrid, including the Youth Orchestra of the Community of Madrid, the Children’s Choir, the Youth Choir, the Chamber Choir of the Community of Madrid and the Band of the Municipal Music Schools of the Community of Madrid, among other public and private initiatives.
She is the academic and artistic director of the Canarian International Arts Meeting (CanArts), from where she promotes initiatives related to contemporary creation, research and music education from an interdisciplinary perspective.
