Pilas B. Gil Frías

Professor of Didactics of Musical Expression. University of La Laguna (ULL)

She completed her studies at the Higher Conservatory of Music of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, earning the qualification of Higher Professor of Music. At the same time, she studied at the University of La Laguna, where she obtained a Diploma in Teaching with a specialization in Music Education. She furthered her training with the University Expert qualification in Methods and Resources for Music Education, a postgraduate program in which she would later also participate as a lecturer.

Her teaching career began immediately after completing her studies. She worked for 15 years in the non-formal education sector as a teacher of Piano, Music and Movement, Children’s Choir, and Complementary Music Training, and she also taught as a Music specialist in Primary Education. During this period, she continued to expand her pedagogical training in methodologies and didactic resources for music education across all its areas.

Since 2018, she has been a lecturer in the Department of Specific Didactics at the University of La Laguna, within the Area of Didactics of Musical Expression, where she teaches in the Bachelor’s Degree in Primary Education and in the Master’s Degree in Teacher Training. She combines her teaching at the University of La Laguna with the direction and participation in university extension courses on music education in its various forms, linking it to creativity and emotional education, among other areas.

She has collaborated with the Regional Ministry of Education in the review of the didactic designs of the Brújula20 digitalization project. In addition, she is the Director of the Manuel Borguñó Choral Music Cultural Classroom at the University of La Laguna, from where she works to promote choral activity in all its forms.

Her research interests in the field of education have always been present and closely linked to her teaching activity, with a particular focus on creativity education and music didactics. She completed her doctoral studies in the Department of Developmental and Educational Psychology, and her doctoral thesis focused on the assessment, development, and education of creativity, both in initial teacher training and in the field of Primary Education.

She has participated in the drafting of the curriculum for the area of Emotional Education and Creativity and is a member of the University of La Laguna research group known as EMOCREA-ULL. This group has worked to support the implementation of the subject, teacher training, and family involvement, carrying out various research, training, and evaluation activities for teachers and families. Her scientific output includes articles in specialized journals, book chapters, and numerous contributions to national and international conferences. Since joining university teaching, she has led Educational Innovation Projects in the Faculty of Education and continues to actively participate in the ongoing professional development of compulsory education teachers, bringing to schools the advances in research developed at the university.
